Hunting Prince Dracula: Giveaway & Top 10 Favorite Traits of Audrey & Thomas

Hi everyone! I’m so happy to be talking about Hunting Prince Dracula today! I LOVED this book and devoured it. I highly recommend both it and Stalking Jack the Ripper if you haven’t read that for some odd reason. Kerri’s ability to transport you into the world of Audrey and Thomas is spectacular.  I loved the setting of Romania and Bran Castle. I wanted to roam the halls with Audrey & Thomas and visit the little town of Brasov. I wished I was the one traveling down the secret passageways with them to discover new mysteries. The supporting characters were fantastic too! I absolutely adored Daciana and Ileana and I hope to see them pop up in book three! This mystery was so fun to solve. I figured it out right before the reveal and was completely shocked. I won’t spoil it, but you’ll probably never guess who the killer is. (insert evil laugh)

Onto the real reason for this blog post, my top ten favorite traits of Audrey and Thomas! I’ve decided to break it down by including four personal traits for each and then two that they share. Up first is Audrey…

Audrey is an intelligent, curious, determined, and plucky woman. She is someone I aspire to be and dream of being friends with. Her determination in every aspect of her life makes me want to be more confident. I love how she never backs down and doesn’t conform to society’s rules. Her pluckiness (or bravery) is admirable and also scary at times. She seems to have no fear and sometimes that isn’t always the best. Her curiosity also gets her in trouble sometimes, but  it also leads her to great discoveries. Lastly, her intelligence is something that surprises me time and time again. She always seems to see the bigger picture and is quick to deduce what’s happened.

“Do you have any idea how difficult it is for me? Most men do not take me seriously based on the skirts I wear, and then you go and prove them right! I am not less than, Thomas.” – Audrey

Thomas has been one of my favorite male literary characters in the past few years. I love his snarky/witty disposition, his compassion for those he loves, his attention to detail, and his ability to be quick on his feet. One of the first things you learn about Thomas is his ability to remember or pick out the most minute details. As a scientist, I find this trait one of my absolute favorites, because it’s something I have to do. This skill of deduction has helped both Audrey and himself multiple times, as has his quick responses. I wish I was able to think as quickly on my feet as Thomas seems to. That and his witty banter has gotten him out of many a sticky situation. That witty banter and snark with Audrey is what makes me swoon. Whenever I think of their dialogue, I can’t help but think of my favorite couple, Logan and Veronica from Veronica Mars (I can get VMars into any post!). Their love hate relationship is what makes you yearn for more. Which leads to his compassion for those he loves. Thomas is the kind of man that will be there for you through thick and thin. He protects and supports those he loves, which I find beyond admirable.

“Your brain is quite appealing. Even in the face of all this, by far my favorite asset of yours.” – Thomas to Audrey

My final two favorite traits go hand in hand. The way Audrey and Thomas work together and also compliment each other is a wonderful thing. It feels as though they know what the other is thinking and they use that to their every advantage. They are always there for each other, no matter the cost. At times Audrey can be brash or impulsive and Thomas is there to reel her in and calm her down. I’m going to refer back to Veronica Mars again, but their dynamic reminds me so much of Logan & Veronica’s. They play off each other so well and bring out both the best and worst in each other.

“When Father had announced Thomas would escort me to academy along with Mrs. Harvey due to his illness, I’d practically chocked on my soup course while Thomas winked over his.” – Audrey

I hope you enjoyed my little analysis of Audrey and Thomas. I also hope you enjoy HPD as much as I did and I can’t wait to hear everyone’s guesses on who the killer is. But more importantly, thoughts on where they think book three takes place! I have many theories and have even shared a few with Kerri. The sleuth in me needs to solve this mystery! Below you’ll find a description of the book, a little more about Kerri, links to buy HPD, links to keep in touch with Kerri, and a GIVEAWAY!!!!

Royal Bastards by Andrew Shvarts: A Mini Review

Knock, Knock. Is anyone still there?

I know it’s been forever since I’ve posted. Life has been very hectic these past few months. Getting back to the blog will hopefully be my Fall resolution. Anyway, onto the main topic… Royal Bastards!

I heard about this book what seems like forever ago. I think Andrew Shvarts was in a swanky seventeen Facebook chat or something when I first “met” him. He pitched his book and I was hooked. I LOVE GoT and while I’m not a huge fantasy fan, when written right, I love it. This book was pitched as GoT meets Six of Crows, which I haven’t read yet.  I know, I know I’ll get to it. It definitely resonated with the GoT angle. The characters are amazing and fun to follow. You feel like you’re there traveling across the country and fighting with them.

Below is a short review with minimal spoilers.

I enjoyed this book so much! I loved the world of Novaris and the people in it. Till was fierce and the type of girl I’d want to be best friends with. Jax and Zell were opposites, yet so similar and their heroism really resonated with me. Lyriana was so special. I was blown away by her character the most and how she transformed from start to end. I’m not mentioning the other person in the group because I dislike him so much. Shvarts wrote him well, because you never saw it coming. I’m very excited for book 2!

I highly recommend this book to fantasy lovers and to those wanting to travel across country with a rag tag group of Bastards.
